There is a fantastic new outdoor exhibition, charting the history of Checkpoint Charlie, just close to the photo op Checkpoint on Friedrichstrasse. It is enclosed by wooden walls with photos on the outside and a great timeline style exhibit inside with 175 huge photos.
As usual I am always assessing these kind of exhibits from the point of view of a parent with a toddler/preschooler. This one ticked all the boxes. A safe place for children, big pictures that interested my son and the written information was succinct enough for me to absorb whilst looking after him. There is a small kiosk selling cold drinks, snacks, postcards and souvenirs but no toilets at present (not sure if they will be located in the building once it opens).
The black box in the middle will be an indoor exhibit and will be open in September 2012.
